Wednesday with Frankfort Reading Camp at Church of the Ascension (Frankfort, KY) and the Sixth Sunday after Pentecost with St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Lexington, Kentucky
When I tell you that Frankfort Reading Camp was a joy to be at, let me start by casting a vision of a week filled with activities built around growing and cultivating a love of reading, working on reading skills, and the power of the comprehensive effects of reading on one’s life. But it was also an example of what the Church can do when we let the Spirit move and we are willing to work across barriers. Volunteers from all across Frankfort help make this camp happen, busses from First United Methodist Church Frankfort and First Christian Church Frankfort, as well as lunches prepared for the adult volunteers by First Christian! We even took an afternoon excursion to the KSU Environmental Education Farm! This ministry of Ascension runs like a well-oiled machine thanks to the director, Deacon Rebecca Saager; this mission truly brings the needs of community into the walls of the church building!
My once a month Sundays with St. Andrew’s continue with joy, talks of the WBNA Basketball All-Star game, sharing of peaches from the Peach Truck, and stories of Mary and Martha, and how we can all do less when we need to get grounded in Christ’s teachings first and foremost.
